Social Media 101
In this four part series, Social Media 101, we will be covering some basic social media tips and tricks for the big four: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
First up – Instagram!
As a business owner, it is very important to remember where your customers are. For most companies that means looking at social media as a space you should be on to reach them. It is wise to put your business on at least three social media platforms so your current and future customers can easily find you!
We live in a very visual world and Instagram is a great avenue to show off your products or services you offer. Recent reports show that Instagram is moving closer and closer to the “click and buy” every day! This will become another way for clients to find your products and purchase them. That way they won’t have to leave Instagram to head over to your website if they like what they see.

Don’t have any products you sell? That’s ok – you can still show off your work or services that you offer in other ways. Take pictures of your office or work space – show followers where all the magic happens! Make sure to keep your brand in mind when taking these images as well. Consistency is key!

Did you know that Instagram relies heavily on hashtags in their searches to help users find the content they want to see? You can always do research to see what’s trending but make sure no matter what hashtags you use, they are relevant to your business. Try to use less than 10 hashtags per post, otherwise it starts to become spammy looking to customers and Instagram.

In regards to posting, you want to post often to increase engagement. A good rule of thumb is to consider 1-2 posts per day and focus on good/relevant content for your followers.
Also, don’t forget about your stories! This can be a fun way for your followers to see behind the scenes and day to day tasks that are happening in your business. Try to follow the same rule as your posts and update your story 1-2 times a day.
There are many more tips and tricks for Instagram but these will be a good start for you. Make sure to come back on December 5th as we dive into Facebook!
